Laloo Scams

Laloo Prasad founder and leader of Rashtriya Janta Dal (RJD) is already convicted by trial court in fodder scam and is debarred from contesting elections. He is out on bail , and has appealed against the judgement in HC. This case almost 2 decades old and it is classical example of how these politicians play with judiciary and avoid the sentence  and do not go to jail. In one of the fodder scam case has been re opened and SC has given the order to trial court to complete the trial in 9 months and Laloo will have to travel to Jharkhand on weekly basis, he is in the middle of one of his worst political and personal crises. He and his family today face a maze of corruption charges – some old going back to the fodder scam, many new linked to land deals and alleged money laundering.

Given below is brief  description of latest scam involving his family

1. CBI raided premises belonging to Laloo’s daughter and her husband in connection with purchase of Benami properties.
2.  The Income Tax department raided 22 locations in New Delhi and adjoining places, related to land and farm houses owned by Laloo’s daughter, Misa Bharti and her husband Shailesh Kumar. The two were also questioned. ED too has begun investigations.
3. His son and deputy chief minister Tejashwi Prasad Yadav is alleged to hold heavy stakes in a company promoting Bihar’s biggest mall in the state capital worth Rs 750 crore; another son Tej Pratap is alleged to hold big tracts of land and a petrol pump (cancelled but stayed by court); and daughters – Misa, Hema and Ragini – have been accused of being directors in many shell companies. In all of this, the charge is that Laloo’s position in power was misused to amass assets.
4. There are also accusations against Laloo Prasad of taking prime land from RJD’s senior leaders like Raghunanth Jha, Kanti Singh and few ordinary people in lieu of giving them ministerial berths and jobs during his stint at railway minister from 2004-09. The land plots were gifted to Laloo Prasad’s two sons by the donors.
5. Laloo Prasad’s family own six companies . All these companies are shell companies promoted to purchase land or other real estate property and then sold over to Laloo’s family at throwaway prices. Besides, the way his close associates gifted lands to his sons when they were minors show how he has a huge hunger for land.
6. These are few of the instances where his family members are benefited, or this may be the tip of ice berg.
7. In May 2017 ED had arrested a Delhi based CA, who is believed to have been behind cash transactions linked to shell companies that owned benami properties in the National Capital region, with Laloo’s daughter Misa supposed to be main beneficiary.
8. Now talk has started in Patna that if Tejashwi Prasad is arrested by authorities then Laloo want his other  son Tej Pratap (presently Health Minister Of Bihar) to be made deputy CM., who is not indicted in above scam.

Now Laloo has started saying that the corruption investigations against him and his family members are vindictive politics of BJP govt at centre.  Nitish Kumar’s govt in Bihar is on slippery wicket, because his govt is dependent on Laloo’s party’s support to survive. Presently Nitish must be repenting of breaking his alliance with BJP. Now if his Deputy CM his arrested on charges of corruption, then there is every likely hood of Nitish breaking alliance with Laloo .

In this whole episode I pity Nitish kumar, who being an able administrator and non corrupt politician has to go through this , but he was knowing before hand that Laloo is corrupt politician then also he went for alliance with RJD and Congress just because at that time BJP had announced Modi as Prime Ministerial candidate, and he was opposed to Modi. Now he must be repenting knowing how popular Modi has become in last 3 years. Therefore as a first step towards reconciling with BJP he has announced his support to BJP’s presidential candidate.

Bihar politics have never been straight and clear cut.
