Mamata

Few days back, Mamata Banerjee CM of Bengal passed an order that as this year Muharram is falling on 1st October and Bijoy Dashmi/Durga Puja is ending on 30th Sept, so to avoid any confrontation between two communities  there will not be any Durga idol immersion after 10 pm on 30th Sept. This enraged the Bengali community of Bengal, specially Bengalis of Kolkata. They thought the CM is unnecessary showing biased towards Muslims. So petition was filed in Calcutta High Court and yesterday HC stayed the order issued by Mamata Banerjee. following were the salient points of the HC’s interim order :

1. The HC over ruled the ban on the immersion of Goddess Durga’s on 1st Oct, saying that the govt’s decision is based on fear and had no material basis.
2. Two Judge bench following the almanac dates for immersion, directed the administration to designate separate routes immersion and Muharram Taziya processions across the state, so  that they would not overlap each other. Further they directed DGP , Police Commissioners and all Police Stations to publicise the designated routes for the sake of amity and harmony.
3. HC further made the observation that” The State has no religion, which is fundamental facets of underlying secularism. There should not be any order of precedence in performing religious rights, rituals, ceremonies and mourning among religious  communities. There should be equality in every citizen’s right with corresponding obligation of the state to protect it.”
4. When Govt’s Advocate General repeatedly  asked the Judges for insistence  of prohibiting immersion on Muharram day, the acting chief justice responded by saying that you are taking last step first. You have to go step by step, because you are the state and have power, it does not give right to do any thing arbitrarily.The AG further asked whether their decision to ban the immersion is against the law. The acting CJ replied him that you just acted on apprehensions, there is no material available to substantiate your apprehension.You exercised your power without any basis. In a case , where there is possibility or apprehension for disturbance of peace, the state has to take measures to prevent or regulate it.
5. The last remark , which the HC made was very disturbing for Mamata Govt, as they asked AG to submit the details regarding number of applications seeking licence from Muslim community for taking out Taziya processions. Govt representative was stunned and taken aback, he had no answer for that. It looks like the Muslims never take Police permission for taking out Taziya processions from Mamata Govt.

Everyone knows that Mamata Banerjee has a soft corner for Muslims, but no one thought she will stoop so low to appease Muslims, in turn antagonising  the major community of  Bengali Hindus. I think Mamata has forgotten that she is born Bengali and for this community Durga Puja  and rituals/rites/ceremonies associated with it are sacrosanct to Bengalis and they can not compromise on that and Mamata tried to do that and fallen flat on her face. I do not  know till what extent Mamata will go to appease Muslims, I think she has beaten Congress, Mulayam Singh’s SP in this igame. Few years back she was fighting for illegal immigrants of Bangladesh and political experts say that just to increase her vote bank she has indirectly helped them to get Indian citizenship. Presently she is crying for Rohingyas Muslims of Myanmar and pressurising central govt to accept them and at least give them refugee status, which centre has opposed vehemently. The way Mamata’s govt is showing bias towards Muslim community, even BJP’s govt never show their pro Hindu stance so much openly and Modi Govt always say ” Subka Saath Subka Vikas” , although BJP as a party is pro Hindutva. In a hush hush tone many people has started saying that Mamata has converted to Islam and she is practicing Muslim, only god knows the truth. Even if that is so, as a head of state she can not differentiate between communities as per the constitution of the country. I will not be surprised , if TMC workers create mischief on 1st Oct and attack Taziya procession so as to create communal tensions and blame Sangh Parivar  for the same to prove their point. Mamata has become so arrogant that she thinks no one will be able to dislodge her in Bengal, as Communists and Congress are finished in the state and BJP is trying to establish itself in state. But she has forgotten that no one is invincible, only time will tell. You have to wait till next state elections.
