The power of social media is so strong and also has a wide reach that it has made a simple 18 years old college going girl Priya Prakash Warrier an over night sensation. Priya is going to make her acting debut in a Malyalam film “Odu Adaar Love”. A 25 sec video clip of a song from the movie was uploaded on You tube by producers as promotion for the film, on 9th Feb 2018. In the clip Priya is shown as a school girl, who in a school function is shown winking at one of her school friend who happens to be a boy. The winking shot of Priya has became viral on the social media.
Up til now more than 50 million hits on you tube only in last 5 days. Her fan following increased so many time that it is un imaginable, she has more than 3 millions followers on social media. Yesterday she was there on most of the news channels, and news anchors were interviewing her and discussing her popularity. For last 2 days she is on the front page of all the news paper in the country. Last time some video went viral was RJ Malishka’s video ” BMC ver bharosa nahi ka” during some time last year, and there were many spoofs and copy cats of that video also, but that video never gain popularity like Priya’s video which has achieved the cult status.
Yesterday some organisation in Hyderabad has filed a complain and Police has registered the case against director of this movie Odu Adaar Love, citing the reason that the Malyalam song which is playing in the back ground is hurting the sentiments of Muslim community. The complain is that the song’s lyrics are linked to the Prophet’s life. Actually even director of the movie is also Muslim named Omar Lula.

The complainants Zaheer Ali Khan & others say that when ttranslated into English , the songs hurt the sentiments of the Muslims, as it makes degratory references to the Prophet, as it mentions the romance between the Prophet and his wife Khadija. Some people say that that ‘Manikya Malaraya Poovi” is a folk tale popular among Muslim Community of Kerala.
The fact of the matter is in the absence of any breaking news stories during these days, the video clip of Priya and controversy related to lyrics of the song will give enough meat to many news channels to boost their TRPs.
