Few interesting news items on  the   first Monday of Apr 2018 :

1. I do not understand these politicians, there is a news item that one Contractor who was awarded 26 small projects through E tendering process  in one of the ward of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), but afterwards group of Municipal Corporators along with few BMC officials started putting pressure on the Contractor to back out of 23 such projects, so that a favoured Contractor  could be awarded the same projects. When the said Contractor refused, the BMC officials cancelled the projects on the ground that they would start only next year. The Contractor has complained to Municipal commissioner, who reacted with the statement that ” if someone is selected thru E tendering process, then he should be awarded the work, this is a very serious allegation. The activists are demanding probe in this matter.       In an another case a Corporator from Shiv Sena and  another politician from NCP are charged with black mailing the builders in Vasai -Virar Taluka area (just  adjacent  to Mumbai). Their modus operandi was get the information about Buliders Companies through Right To Information Act(RTI) and mis use the same information for black mailing the builders. In one of the case the NCP politician blackmailed one builder about some construction going on in one of the plot owned by builder, which was located in Forest zone and demanded money. The Shiv Sena demanded bribe from another builder for withdrawing the complaint lodged against the builder.             This type of instances only prove that some of the people who enter politics have only one aim to make money by hook or crook. This type of cases you will find in all the major cities of the country and this disease is spreading very fast. The problem is that most of these corrupt politicians go scot free, which encourages other people to enter politics to make easy money.You will find very few politicians , who do not indulge into corruption. We have a PM, who is totally non corrupt, but alone he can not do much unless other politicians and bureaucrats do not become clean.
2. Few months back there was news on media regarding poor attendance of nominated members of Rajra Sabha, Sachin Tendulkar and film star Rekha. There were such a hue and cry on this issue, even some media person went on to say that why  the govt is paying them salary and allowance as Rajya Sabha members. In today’s newspapers there is one  news item which caught my attention and that is- Sachin has donated his full salary and allowances which were paid to him as Rajya Sabha members to Prime minister’s Relief fund and  PM’s office has acknowledged that. Secondly the information released by Cricketer also mentions that he has used  Rs 30 Cr allocated to him as Rajya Sabha member for development, out of this rs 7.4 Cr for educational related infrastructure including renovation of class rooms. Rest of the funds have been allocated to 185 projects for development across the country.Knowing Sachin’s integrity, I am sure he must have allocated the funds for the most deserving projects without any hanky panky business. My big SALUTE to Sachin.
3.  Why media is shying away from reporting communal violence cases in Bengal. Otherwise certain section of media is always cashes on the communal violence news if the affected community is Muslim, but when the affected community is Hindu then most of the media person prefer not to report the same. Thru social media, the news always filters out about these type of incidents and as per them the communal violence is happening in Bengal for last so many years and Mamata govt is backing Muslims in a big way and letting major community suffer.  In one of the article in social media it was mentioned that Bengal is slowly turning into Kashmir, with exodus of Hindus from so many towns and cities and Mamata is playing vote bank politics with Muslims  and her govt is turning blind eye regarding illegal immigrants from Bangladesh. Mamata always blamed Modi for Gujarat riots and termed his as killer, but why she forgets that after 2002 there have not been any communal riots in Gujarat and for last 4 years even Modi is not CM of Gujarat, it only means that what ever Modi did for minorities after 2002 is being still continued by present BJP govt. Whereas in Mamata’s Bengal there have been communal riots after every few months.
