Presidential Nominee

To be frank, till yesterday  I have not heard the name of Ram Nath Kovind, who is chosen by NDA as their Presidential nominee. Similarly most of the people out side BJP may not be knowing about him. I generally keep myself  update on the political happenings in the country, but I was taken by surprise when his name was announced by Amit Shah, the BJP President.

My few observations on this:

1. What has been achieved by BJP by choosing Ram Nath Kovind  as NDA’s presidential candidate, except that there will be acceptance even by opposition parties because he being a Dalit.
2. In the earlier UP assembly election BJP was declaring from roof top , that they do not believe in caste system and their Motto is   ” Sab Ka Saath Sab Ka Vikas” and they do not choose their candidate by caste or religion. Now what happens to their ideology, when they chose presidential candidate because he is Dalit.
3. Most of the people were hoping that Modi/Shah combine will choose a non political candidate like Atalji who chose APJ Abdul Kalam, a scientist, as Presidential candidate, although that time his govt did not had majority votes for presidential polls, but Atalji knew Kalam status was such that most of the opposition parties will accept his name.
4. Ram Nath Kovind will be  definitely chosen as next President of the country, but he will be the least known President of the country, see his predecessors  how famous or well known they were   : Rajendra Prasad (Freedom Fighter), S Radhakrishnan (past Vice President and eminent educationist), Zakir Hussain (past Vice President), VV Giri(past Vice President), FA Ahmed (past Vice President), Sanjiva Reddy ( Eminent Congress Leader), Giani Zail Singh( Past Home Minister, CM of Punjab, eminent Parliamentarian), R Venkatraman(past Vice President and eminent scholar), Shankar Dayal Sharma (past Vice President , Central Minister,Eminent union leader), KR Narayanan(past Vice President and Dalit Leader), APJ Abdul Kalam(Eminent Scientist), Pratibha Patil(Congreess Leader and Central Minister), Pranab Mukherjee( eminent Central Minister for)  more than 3 decades.
5. I do not understand by choosing Ram Nath Kovind, what Modi/Shah have achieved. Are they looking for a Rubber Stamp President like VV Giri ( Indira nominee ) FA Ahmed ( Indira nominee who signed emergency ordinance) or Pratibha Patil( who was Sonia nominee). If Modi/Shah wanted to please Dalit community, they should have chosen Ram Nath Kovind as Vice President candidate with an eye for President ship after 5 years and selected some other eminent person for President.
6. What is Ram Nath Kovind’s public life bio data, except that he was  Rajya Sabha member for two terms and presently he is Governor of Bihar for last two years. But  who remembers the the name of Rajya Sabha MP or Governor.
