Weekend

The hatke topic for this weekend is  Ratan Tata. I have  covered him earlier also, but I am again writing on him .

The Chairman Emeritus of Tata Sons  Ratan Tata has been instrumental figure in growth of the Tata Sons empire. While he is recognised globally for his business acumen, here are five unique facts about him, which people hardly know

  1. Serial Start Up Investor- Very few people know that he is an avid investor in many start- ups in several sectors.. There is hardly any domain, which Tata has not invested in. He has invested in more that 30 start-ups, staying true to his belief in “putting the faith in fresh talent.”
  2. Marriage- as per his own admission, he came seriously close to getting married 4 times. This was disclosed by him in an interview with CCN International’s Talk Asia show in 2011, where he said ” I came seriously close to getting married four times and each time I backed off in fear or for one reason or other. Each occasion was different, but in hindsight when I look at the people involved; it was not a bad thing what I did. I think it may have been more complex had the marriage taken place.”
  3. Car Lover- Not many would know that his love for car is matchless. Under his watch and guidance, Tata group acquired brands like Land Rover, Jaguar and Range Rover. While these brands were acquired to take Tata Motors into the global market, he is also the one under whom India got its first people’s car named Tata Nano, which was initially available for Rs One Lakh. The company under his guidance, has driven several car projects which became very popular in the country during early 2000s.
  4. Troubled Childhood- He was born into rich family in 1937, to Naval Hormusji Tata and Sooni Tata. When he was 7 years old he experienced emotional turmoil when his parents separated. Afterwards he was raised by his grandmother along with his younger brother Jimmy.
  5. Padma Awards- Ratan Tata is only a handful of businessmen who have been bestowed with 2nd  and 3rd highest civilian awards for excellence and contribution in the field of trade and industry. He won Padma Bhushan, the 3rd highest civilian award in the year 2000, and Padma  Vibhushan in the year 2008.

He is one of the most revered businessmen in the world, who has been instrumental in the success story of Tata Sons’ empire. he took the group to new heights during his tenure as Group Chairman. He is not popular because after he took charge of Tata Sons in 1991 and the way the growth of group happened, but is also popular due to his acts of philanthropy, investment in new ventures etc. He has such a big stature and  world wide his business acumen is appreciated. There was a movement last year  that he should be next President of India, but the move fizzled out as he is not interested in Party Politics, although office of President should be apolitical but in the present  circumstances it is not feasible. Up till now only 2 non political people have become President,  first is Educationist S Radhakrishnan and 2nd is Scientist APJ Abdul Kalam. I hope Ratan Tata becomes 3rd non political President in 2022.

In the end, Ratan Tata richly deserves Bharat Ratna  award, and I do not understand why the present govt is delaying it. I think there should be a movement in this matter by the public. What you my friends?

Waiting for your comments/views/feed backs.
